There were ages when things were crafted with timeless elegance…
…when people honored masterful artisan workmanship…
…when dedicated craftsmen would hone their abilities for years, and find ways to integrate their skills with emerging social needs and innovative new technologies.
These were times that did not embrace the culture of fast, cheap, disposable. These were cultures that had a high regard for those who spent their days not in passive entertainment, but in the relentless pursuit of excellence.
What if we could bring a little bit of that back?
Odyssey Craftworks, LLC. is a daring venture that seeks to reclaim that ideal. Under this banner, several aspects are expanding under the direction of Chris and Liv Moore:
Mithros Designs (launching June 2013) features jewelry items inspired by history, designed for wearability, and rich in symbolism and meaning.
Underhill Alchemy, LLC is a passion that has been many years in the making. Intoxicating fragrances for the skin, the bath, the home, and the altar.
Liv has closed Carey Moore Art (formerly CareyOxler.com) in order to focus on these new businesses. If you would like prints or greeting cards with her art, they are available through DeviantArt.
And there are other projects in the works… We go where the Muses lead us!
I just published an adult coloring book: Gemstone Fantasy Vol. I by Carey A. Moore, available in our Etsy Shop. It’s a downloadable pdf with 41 colorable pages of 20 unique jewelry and gemstone designs, in basic and advanced versions.
I love coloring, and in planning some new products and designs I realized I could translate some of these ideas into coloring pages. I made the original designs in the GIMP, and my friend Jared Presler helped me convert them to vector format. The new vector version is available for purchase and download now, and the pages look great printed on 8.5 x 11″ paper and will print well on most any printer — inkjet or laser.
The designs all feature gemstones including 12 different cuts, and each gemstone page comes in a basic version that only gives guide lines for the facets visible on the top of the gem… and an advanced version that includes thinner grey lines showing the facets on the underside of the gem, allowing you to create some truly spectacular patterns of sparkle and color if you’re up for the challenge!
If you want to take your drawings to the next level, there are some great tutorials out there for coloring gemstones, cabochons, metal, and pearls. I can’t wait to have the downtime to be able to color these myself!
Did I mention that the pages are formatted so you can put your finished piece into an 8 x 10″ photo frame?
Anyway, I’d LOVE to see someone’s coloring of one of my pages! Please share them and drop me a link, a comment, or use the hashtag #GemstoneFantasy so i can see your work!
We’re pleased to officially announce our newest and shiniest affiliate/subsidiary/child project: Mithros Designs.
Mithros Designs is dedicated to creating meaningful jewelry inspired by history, designed for wearability, and infused with deliberate expression. These designs will reflect influences from diverse cultures, religions, and periods of history but all with a focus on having jewelry designed to be worn everyday as a touchstone for high ideals, cherished connections, and the many expressions of spiritual journeys. The majority of our designs are in silver, though we will have some special pieces in gold. We’re also developing an affordable pewter line.
We are first and foremost operating as a wholesale design company, so for the general public some of our designs will only be available in stores or through specific merchants or organizations. We will have some “open edition” lines available for retail purchase through our website or when we set up at events. If your organization or company would like a custom piece or exclusive line, we’d love to help you bring that dream into reality.
Here’s a little sample of what we’ve created…
The Discreet Devotions collection features a customizable hidden symbol under the stone, for when you want to keep your faith close to your heart, but not out on display.
The Goddess of Infinite Love pendant serves as a reminder that love is not a finite resource in the Universe. As Juliet says in Shakespeare’s play, “My bounty is as boundless as the sea, My love as deep; the more I give to thee, The more I have, for both are infinite.”
Sometimes called the faery star or elven star, the Septegram is a seven-pointed star used by many traditions to symbolize many things, but always it is a symbol of magical possibilities beyond the expected.
There are more designs over at www.mithrosdesigns.com!
Underhill Alchemy, LLC is one of the product lines under the Odyssey Craftworks, LLC umbrella. Masterfully blended fragrance oils inspired by the realms of Faerie (and a few other sources), these scents are deliciously different and glamorously intoxicating. Which one will become your signature scent?
